Dear Daughter

Jive with the day as you feel the wind on your back and sunlight in your face...

She sweeps, she scrubs, she wipes with care,
No speck of dust must linger anywhere.
Her hands are raw, her mind is tight,
She cleans from morning into night.
The laughter fades, the voices dim,
Lost in the swirl of cloth and trim.
A hug is paused, a touch ignored,
The mop and broom she holds adored.
Yet love is not in spotless floors,
But in open hearts and unlocked doors.
If she could rest, just breathe, just see,
Her home would shine in harmony.
My daughter, do not let your pots and floors shine brighter than you
Dust if you must, sweep if you want but do take the time to kiss the love of your life and the delight of your heart
And to jive with the day as you feel the wind on your back and sunlight in your face
Afterall, when we leave, what do we leave behind but a handful of dust
